We are pleased to announce that the 19th Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics will be held February 9 - 15, 2003 at the Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge, Colorado. Following the long-standing tradition of the Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics, the 19th Workshop will cover all aspects of nuclear dynamics: radioactive ion beam collisions, nuclear astrophysics, quark structure of nuclei, low and intermediate energy heavy ion physics, and relativistic heavy ion physics. The exciting new results from the first runs at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory, offer an excellent opportunity for the Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics to contribute substantially to the discussion and understanding of this new realm of physics.
Although there will be an emphasis on RHIC data and theory, we strongly encourage presentation of physics results from other facilities, such as TJNAF, NSCL, GSI, and CERN. We also expect that theory talks will go beyond the scope of the physics from these facilities. The workshop format encourages discussion of physics across traditional boundaries of the sub-fields of nuclear physics. Nuclear dynamics will be addressed through various observables and analysis methods rather than through the energy regime at which the nuclear collisions occur. The sessions topics have been chosen according to physics observables. Please see the "Conference Topics" link on the homepage for more details. Each talk will be 25+5 minutes long and there will be morning and evening sessions. We recommend that you arrive on Saturday, February 8th and leave on Saturday, February 15th.
The Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge, Colorado, is located in a spectacular setting in the Rocky Mountains at the base of the world-famous Breckenridge Ski Resort. It features ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes. Established in the 1800's, the town of Breckenridge is 141 years old. It was originally a mining town for gold and silver, and still reflects a quaint Victorian atmosphere with shops, boutiques and restaurants lining Main Street. The town of Breckenridge is directly accessible from the Beaver Run Resort and the Breckenridge Ski Resort.
Based on the desirable location of the resort and the special arrangements we have made with the resort management for rooms, we request that you register as soon as possible and preferably before November 10, 2002. We also encourage you to share your accommodation either with a fellow workshop participant or an accompanying guest. At the time of registration, we need to know whether you intend to share a room, you request a roommate to share a room, or if you will require a single occupancy accommodation. We request that you let us know, if you are interested or intend to participate in the workshop. A second notice with official registration information will be mailed to you at the end of the summer. Further information on travel, accommodation, and activities can be found through our respective homepage links. Also, information about previous year's workshops can be found by link from the homepage. The Workshop Proceedings will be published.
This first announcement will be followed up by a more detailed announcement at the end of summer for official registration and reservation information. Please mark this workshop on your calendar, start to discuss it with your spouse or anyone else in authority, bookmark the workshop homepage, let us know your interest, and check back in due time.
Please send statements of intent to attend the workshop to the organizers or to the conference secretary. If you have any questions at this time, please send e-mail to the conference secretary, Leslie Bump (bumpl@star.physics.yale.edu).
