18th Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics

First Announcement

The tradition of the Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics has been to cover all aspects of nuclear dynamics including radioactive beam collisions, nuclear astrophysics, quark structure of nuclei, low and intermediate energy heavy ion physics, and relativistic heavy ion physics. The inaugural operation of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory last year and new RHIC physics this year, offers a unique opportunity for the upcoming 18th Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics to contribute significantly to the discussion and understanding of this new realm of physics. The 18th Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics will be held January 20 - 27, 2002 at the Radisson Cable Beach Resort in Nassau, Bahamas.

Although there will be an emphasis on RHIC data and theory, we encourage presentation of physics results from other nuclear facilities, such as TJNAF, MSU, GSI, and CERN. We also expect that theory talks will go beyond the scope of these. The workshop format encourages the discussion of physics across traditional boundaries of the sub-fields of nuclear physics. Nuclear dynamics will be addressed through various observables and analysis methods rather than through the energy regime at which the nuclear collisions occur. The sessions topics have been chosen according to physics observables. Please see the 'Conference Topics' link on the homepage for more details. Each talk will be 25+5 minutes long and there will be morning and evening sessions. We recommend that you arrive on Sunday, January 20th and leave on Sunday, January 27th. Please note that the last day of the workshop Saturday, January 26th is a full session day with the banquet that evening.

Based on the location of the conference and the special arrangements we have made with the resort management, we request that you register as soon as possible and no later than November 1st. We also encourage you to share your accommodation either with an accompanying spouse or a fellow workshop participant. At the time of registration, we need to know whether you intend to share a room, request us to arrange for you to share a room or if you will require a single occupancy accommodation. For further information, please see the 'Deadlines' link and the 'Registration Form' itself, both accessible from the homepage. Further information on travel, accommodation, and island information can be found through our respective homepage links.

This first announcement will be followed up by two more detailed announcements before the conference. So please bookmark this page and check back in due time.

If you have any questions at this time please send mail to the conference secretary, Leslie Bump (bumpl@star.physics.yale.edu).
